Mio, the world’s leading GPS brand releases the Mio Moov 380, the first in-car GPS system equipped with built-in SIM card support.  Mio cooperates with Taiwan’s leading telecoms operator, Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), to hold the world’s first product launch press conference for the Mio Moov 380, in Taiwan today.  The world’s slimmest and most compact car navigation device, the Mio Moov 380, uses MioMap2008, and comes installed with the exclusive “Mio Life Info. Specialist” real time search functionality and FET’s SIM card provides access to the “FET GPS Info. Samuel Wang, Vice President of MiTAC Inc. and President of Mio Technology Corp. and Jan Nilsson, Vice Chairman & President of FET present the press conference to demonstrate the features of the Mio Moov 380 and a variety of leading services. With the Moov 380, Wang and Nilsson hope users can obtain the latest real time information necessary to live their lives and have the best options available to them.

The Location-oriented Service of Wireless Networks Generates New Business Opportunities for Car Electronics

The development of wireless networking has enabled Mio to integrate wireless communication and real time transmission technology into its GPS, enabled car electronics products allowing them to offer six kinds of location-oriented services: on the go safety, positioning, navigation, tracing & management, commercial and leisure entertainment services, generating new business opportunities for car electronics products.

Wang of MiTAC states, “By adopting networking technologies, Mio enables in-car devices to offer more services than traditional car GPS systems. From real time traffic message navigation to the latest entertainment information, it enables in-car GPS’s to navigate smarter, and also enrich the lives of our consumers.”

In order to provide an even greater degree of real time information Mio has teamed up with FET, to enhance the original Traffic Message Channel (TMC) feature. Nilsson at FET indicates, “Through the nation-wide GPRS base station network of FET, we are able to offer more location-oriented and rapid navigation services. When anything unexpected happens on the planned route, messages are transmitted to the car’s GPS device, allowing users to recalculate their route. It also offers a basic navigation service that is based on Short Message Service (SMS), enabling consumers to rapidly communicate with their friends and obtain the location of each other by using the GPS device.”

The Moov380 is now available in Taiwan, and the unit price is NT$ 12,500. The market strategy, price and available time for other areas has not been confirmed yet.
