Plastic Recycling

When doing plastic recycling, recycling equipment including industrial shredder, granulator, dehydrator are implemented to transfer the used plastic materials into usable materials.

Plastic Recycling

There is a wide range of products made from recycled plastic and this includes

  • polyethylene bin liners and carrier bags;
  • PVC sewer pipes, flooring and window frames;
  • building insulation board;
  • video and compact disc cassette cases;
  • fencing and garden furniture;
  • water butts;
  • garden sheds and composters;
  • seed trays; anoraks and fleeces;
  • fibre filling for sleeping bags and duvets; and a variety of office accessories.

There are about 50 different types of plastic. The main types include:

  • HDPE – Opaque bottles
  • PVC – Transparent bottles, with a seam running across the base
  • PET – Transparent bottles, with a hard moulded spot in the centre of the base
  • LDPE - It was the first grade of polyethylene. Trays & general purpose container, food storage and laboratory containers, and corrosion-resistant work surfaces, etc.

 Mechanical Plastic Recycling

Mechanical plastic recycling of plastics refers to processes which involve the shredding, granulation, blending, dehydrator, cutting, washing and vibratory sieving of waste plastics.  Whey doing plastic recycling, plastics must be sorted prior to mechanical recycling. Most sorting for mechanical plastic recycling is done by trained staff who manually sorts the plastics into polymer type and/or color. Technology is being introduced to sort plastics automatically, using various techniques such as X-ray fluorescence, infrared and near infrared spectroscopy, electrostatics and flotation. After sorting, the plastic is either melted down directly and moulded into new shapes, or melted down after being shredded into flakes and then processed into granules called regranulate.
